2024 election

Kennedy/Brain Worm

Read the comic on Patreon.

It was reported this week that in a deposition, RFK Jr. claimed a brain parasite (and mercury poisoning) limited his ability to pay alimony. This is the kind of sound medical reasoning you’d expect from one of the most prominent anti-vaxxers who has encouraged the current resurgence of formerly preventable diseases, and stopped COVID vaccine uptake right when it needed to be ramped up.

As a third party candidate, RFK Jr.’s filling in the weirdo/crank void left by the late Lyndon LaRouche. If Kennedy can somehow siphon enough votes in the few counties that matter electorally to flip the result, that’s more of an indictment on the Democrats’ failure to run up huge margins in what should be the THIRD layup election against Trump. Especially when the alleged “spoiler” candidate is a literal quack with brain worms.

I wish there were viable third, fourth, etc. parties in this country. That could result in more parliamentary-style coalition building in Congress. They’d have to start running for offices lower on the ticket than president though, and none of these vanity presidential campaigns seem interested in doing anything like real political work.

More Rejected Courtroom Sketches

Trump’s criminal trial has begun with jury selection, and first reports were kind of funny, as far as Trump news goes. Falling asleep, having to hear the mean things potential jurors said about him on social media, and an aide bringing printouts of good news to improve his mood, etc.

Then the media started reporting every identifying detail of the potential jurors, who were quickly identified by Trump’s goon troops. This led to at least one quitting for safety concerns. And just a couple hours later, Trump was posting stuff on social media about the jurors, violating a gag order.

Previous contempt of court charges against him had led to nothing but minor fines, so he’ll keep doing it. Until one of the judges in all these trials wants to be the one to put a former/candidate-for president in jail, these farces will continue all year long!

NBC’s Pundit Search

NBC hired former RNC chair Ronna McDaniel for a few minutes before rescinding the offer after employees and viewers voiced their disgust with having a coup-enabler on TV to lie about another election. The problem they and every other news outlet has is that there are no more mainstream Republicans who oppose doing another coup.

So they either have to point this out, or pretend the guy who’s been at the top of the Republican ticket for nearly a decade now is some weird aberration, instead of the standard-bearer of America’s fascist party. Presenting the fiction probably makes selling ads a lot easier.

Only a little more than six months for NBC and the rest of the media to figure out that both-sides-ing fascism won’t save them.

Medical Maladies

It’s the fourth anniversary of COVID lockdown, and to celebrate people are spreading measles, norovirus and everything else more hygienic generations had virtually eradicated. The other panels are about other news things you’ve probably heard about, unless you’re a frozen embryo who suddenly became a “person” because of some idiot judge(s).

With the charade of the primaries all but over, it’s general election season. It will be even dumber than the last one. I will try to ignore it for as long as possible.

Pleas from the President

It’ll soon be six months since Israel’s revenge campaign in Gaza began with the US government funding and cheering it on the entire time. Now that the horrors and atrocities are starting to be reflected in the polls, the calls of “Trump is worse!” to deflect criticism of Biden are getting louder.

Of course, Trump is worse than Biden. But genocide is happening now. Waiting for an election to be over before demanding an end to a slaughter is a sign of a craven politics brain.

Trump Shopping Network

Courts say Trump has to pay a lot of money in judgements from his assorted fraud and defamation trials. Now his PACs are broke from paying for all his legal fees. Then last week he debuted a shitty $400 sneaker at a sneaker convention in Philadelphia.  Seems desperate! But …

He’s currently trying to delay and appeal, and even if that fails, I’m not convinced he’ll ever pay up. I’ll be happy to see him face consequences for delinquency, but the courts and politicians have proved their unwillingness to put this shithead in a cell.

Trump’s been pulling a bunch of shenanigans in court that would have any other defendant in jail for contempt of court months ago. No judge wants to be the one to do the very obvious thing and apply consequences to this demented fascist for the first time in his life, because that’ll set a dangerous precedent that all ex-presidents are subject to laws.

With most of Trump’s trials not allowing video, or even cameras, courtroom sketch artists are having a moment. It’s a job that I thought I could do. They’re presumably employed by the court, with wages and benefits, and they don’t even have to do speech bubbles! Stenographers do that. How hard could it be?

2024 Congressional Schedule

The new year has begun and so has the countdown to 24/7 election talk. Not here, though. Getting it out early while we’re all shaking off holiday hangovers and/or the latest covid surge.

I won’t keep harping on Mike Johnson and Republicans actively wanting to do a coup, that’s a well-known fact. But Schumer (and Biden) have wasted the past three years on the mixed-messaging of praising bipartisanship and working with Republicans while simultaneously claiming they’re an imminent threat to democracy. Gotta sharpen up the contrasts for the low-information dum-dums who have all our fates in their simple, fickle hands.
