I’m firmly against topical Halloween costumes in real life, but it’s a decent premise for a cartoon where you don’t have to spend an entire evening stuck inside your one-note joke that only news nerds might get.

While the final panel is about Biden deciding to build more border walls, it applies to everywhere refugees are being denied their right to seek asylum. A wall refusing desperate people entry is the opposite side of one locking them into a miserable fate.

White House Sophistry Briefing

With Title 42 coming to end (only because they’re ending the pandemic emergency declaration in May), the Biden administration has begun floating the idea of bringing family detainment back. That’s the same thing that caused all the good liberals with signs on their lawns to protest “kids in cages” when Trump did it.

The White House has also recently stymied any hope of D.C. self rule, refused to condemn Israel’s super-apartheid government fomenting violence in the West Bank, and generally doing everything it can to wipe out their 2020 campaign platform.

Now I get to sit back and wait for angry emails telling me how rude I am for criticizing this administration when Republicans are much, much worse.

Economics Kinks

More fiduciary fun this week. Funds for COVID mitigation measures are being held up in the Senate by Republicans and the usual Democratic suspects to keep Title 42. It was written by Stephen Miller using COVID as a pretext to unilaterally deport anyone seeking asylum from a country where COVID’s run rampant with nary a mitigation measure, like the United States right now, for one example.

The Haunting of the White House

I didn’t mean to start spooky season yet. But horrific photos and reports of U.S. Border Patrol on horseback assaulting and detaining refugees seeking asylum sent a chill down my spine.

The refugees, particularly those from Haiti in this case, are dealing with a series of disasters that we have caused, both directly and indirectly. In any case, all refugees should be let in and given asylum. We have the space and resources, and it’s time for leadership instead caving to fascist scaremongers like Tucker Fucking Carlson. It’s good practice too. There are about to be a billion more climate refugees in the years ahead, and a good chance you and I will be among them.

Trump Slaughters the Food Supply

I got rid of my car four years ago, and used Zipcar for groceries and supply runs. I’m not sitting in someone else’s germs, so we rely on delivery now. Thankfully there’s a local store that’s sources stuff locally, so its supply chains aren’t as strained as the monopolies.

We currently have enough meat and fish, but I would kill for a grocery chain rotisserie chicken and the chicken salad I’d make out of the leftovers.

Mike Pompeo’s Pretext Rejects

Watching the same dopes in the media and politics who fell for the Iraq War runup do it again for this administration’s even more obvious warmongering is infuriating.

We instigated a coup and installed a monarchy in Iran when they democratically elected a dude who wouldn’t give us free oil forever. They (and no one) should take our word at face value.
