With Trump leading Republican polls with a full-blown racist nationalist platform of slurs and insults, the rest of the field is following his lead and it’s ugly. Stripped of the dog whistles and coded language employed by Republicans for decades, the hatefulness of that party toward immigrants is now obvious to anyone, especially those who will be voting in the general election.

The election is still very far away, and Donald Trump is sucking up all the media oxygen from every other candidate. He’s also leading the Republican field in the polls, which is hilarious. Claims that Trump is more extreme than his peers are untrue. He’s just not using the dog whistles and Luntz-speak to apply a veneer of respectability to his terrible impulses and “ideas.”
As a Star Trek nerd, I was deeply offended that Ted Cruz thinks Captain Kirk would be a Republican. Not only is this untrue, but Star Trek depicts a futuristic socialist interstellar government that has advanced beyond capitalism. Thankfully, Shatner shut him down:

I’ve ignored it for as long as I could, but after a month of official campaign announcements, plus Jeb’s non-announcements due to fundraising shenanigans, I’ve done a cartoon about the election that will not end.
I like Bernie Sanders. If years of following our terrible, corrupt election process hadn’t made me a cynical defeatist, I might actually be optimistic about his chances. But I’m glad he’s in the race and bringing up issues that are resonating with people. If anything, his campaign could shift the Overton window back towards sanity and away from the supply-side thinking that has dominated national conversations and destroyed the working class since the 1980s.

Ted Cruz is not dumb. He is playing into the willful ignorance and victimhood that riles up the base to win elections.
By a weird twist of fate, it has become my job to draw cartoons about current events. I am not a news junkie, but I must ingest news constantly to stay up-to-date on the latest nonsense and dumbassery. I’m especially not a fan of politics and our never-ending presidential campaigns. But the 2016 campaign has begun and I have been dragged into covering it. Maybe we’ll return to sanity for a few brief moments in 2017, before the 2020 campaign begins.
I don’t think Senator Tom Cotton’s open letter to Iran was treasonous; it was dumb. And unfortunately for the US and the rest of the world, being dumb isn’t treason. It’s practically a requirement for anyone who wants to court the Tea Party caucus.
It’s spring (or so I’ve heard from under all of the record-breaking snow) and the miserable slog towards another election has sprung. And if the apoplectic reactions from both sides regarding Hillary Clinton’s Rube Goldberg-esque email practices are any indication, it’s going to be an insufferable year and a half.
Unless the 47 Senate Republicans get their way and start another war, then I can wait out 2016 from a fallout shelter.

It was another dumb week in dumbness. Everyone was arguing over the semantics of “radical this, extremist that” instead of what can be done about ISIS.
The options are terrible and nobody in elite circles wants to admit there’s nothing we can do. Over a decade of the United States’ foreign adventures should have proven that bombing campaigns only create more extremists, both abroad and among the war-crazies at home.
Meanwhile, there are a ton of other extremists right here doing their best to ruin everything.
