Pricing Panic!

Russia invaded Ukraine while I was drawing this. Not good! I’ll do a cartoon about it if I think of anything more insightful than that.

I don’t usually watch local news, but we have another winter storm coming, and was curious what the snow totals would be. There were lots of segments about gas prices, even before today’s invasion. I’m sure price fluctuations are a huge inconvenience to commuters, especially the ones who bought monster truck pedestrian smashers when prices were low.

But other fixed costs have been rising for decades and can’t be ameliorated by downsizing your home and family. If there were signs on the sides of every road illuminating this, maybe they’d get as much attention as car juice.

Starbucks’ Union-Busting Tactics

Read the comic on Patreon.

Starbucks franchises across the country are unionizing, and the company is not pleased. Same with REI, and countless other places where people have been forced to deal with our most terrible citizens throughout the pandemic.

Their coffee stinks, too. I’m not a total Boston stereotype, though. Dunkin’ is much worse.

Spotify’s Top Podcasts

Read the comic on Patreon.

Joe Rogan’s been spreading misinformation throughout the pandemic, and it seems to have worked. States everywhere are currently lifting meager mitigation measures while around 20,000 people are still dying every week.

All the hateful and dumb shit on his podcast precedes the pandemic and Spotify knew who they were giving $100 million to, all subsidized by stiffing musicians to fractions of pennies per stream.

I’m old and streaming music never appealed to me. I still listen to mp3s and put them on my phone for when I’m on the go. Bandcamp works for that, and they give artists 100% of the proceeds the first Friday of every month. Try it out.

2022 Valentines

This marks twenty years of me making fake Valentine’s cards for cartoons. I might’ve missed several years when I was on the NYT grind, so don’t quote me on that.

I had a cold this week that was surprisingly not COVID. While I don’t recommend getting sick, any excuse to avoid following the news makes for a better week.
