Dagnut Dalrymple’s Culture War Country

Two reactionary country songs got a lot of coverage this summer and I’m sure the mockery (including this cartoon) will only strengthen their victim complex. Until they’re in prison being sung to by the ghost of Johnny Cash, they’ll be just fine.

Modern country has gotten so formulaic, all the creative voices in it strain to call it something else like Americana, outlaw, folk, or as call ’em all, “the good kind.”

I listened to a lot of Willie Nelson albums while drawing this, and it’s a toss up between “Teatro” and “Red Headed Stranger” for my favorites.

Culture War Activities

Republicans riling up their base about stove regulations or sexy M&Ms is preferred over the past few years spent inciting them to commit terrorism against human beings. The latter isn’t culture war, just straight up war-war.

A lot of stuff gets lumped into “Culture War” because media considers it frivolous, even if it’s a serious issue with life or death consequences. They’ve probably already defined it down to include everything that isn’t about actual war or our precious economy. Or the Royal Family, who I’m still hearing about for some reason.

MAGA Culture Warrior

MAGA opposition to The Green New Deal, or any action to mitigate climate change has boiled down to “socialists wanna take your straws and cheeseburgers!” We live in the dumbest of times. And thanks to a return of medieval-era diseases, it’s also becoming one of the deadliest.
