Justice Breyer, the Scrivener

Read the comic on Patreon.

I’m not usually an optimist, but the balance of the Supreme Court is just a Clarence coronary and a Kavanaugh DUI fatality away from being restored. Those odds are diminished if Breyer pulls an Anthony Kennedy and sticks around to let a Republican president pay off his kids’ debts for the opportunity to appoint his successor.

Maybe it’s ageist, but the last time hoping an ancient justice clung to life didn’t work out so well. Breyer can do whatever it is Sandra Day O’Connor’s been up to. (Just Googled, she’s still alive at 91.)

Georgia’s Voting Wrongs Act

Kemp’s getting the spotlight, but Republican governors and legislatures are pulling this stuff across the country. End the filibuster and pass the “For the People Act” before it’s too late.

2020 Election Stickers

The Supreme Court has been rigging elections since I was first eligible to vote in a Presidential election in 2000. I was in college at the time and too lazy to vote absentee (Maryland and Massachusetts went to Gore, so don’t blame me.), but I learned my lesson and voted in every election since. For twenty years, massive turnout has been needed to overcome the voter suppression of Republicans and their Supreme flunkies, and this year’s obstacles are even worse.

Mitch McConnell’s Court-Packing Hacks

Read the comic on Patreon.

Every judge and justice appointed by a loser of the popular vote is illegitimate and should be removed and their opinions nullified. The compromise position is expanding the court. Anything less is capitulation to Mitch’s lifelong project of destroying the country.

Just two more regularly scheduled comics until the election! I’ve drawn Biden in 2019 and a couple of times for The Nib, so I think you can tell I’m not exactly enthusiastic about him. If things go well, I’ll start ripping him to shreds soon.

John Roberts’ Voter Suppression Innovations

Congress could restore the Voting Rights Act if the Senate and White House are flipped. To make that happen, register everyone to vote and help them jump through all the hoops Republicans will put in their way.

GOP Jury Duty

Mitch’s shady late night impeachment shenanigans should clue people in to the G.O.P.’s project to undermine democracy, but if the last twenty years haven’t, I don’t know what will.

I thought nothing could be worse than drawing Ted Cruz during the 2016 primaries, but then he went and grew a teenager’s graying patchy beard.

The Supreme Court Celebrates the Fourth

Summers were more fun those years when the Supreme Court started them off with good news. The Voting Rights Act may be dead at the federal level, but registering as many people as possible to vote is still legal … at least until next summer.
