Scalia

Mitch McConnell Rewrites the Rules

After denying Merrick Garland’s appointment to the Supreme Court for nearly a year, Mitch McConnell blew up the rulebook to put Neil Gorsuch into dead Scalia’s seat. If they ever regain power, the Democrats would be wise to use the same tactics to shut out Republicans, instead of pining for the “Days of Decorum” that only existed in pundits’ fever dreams.

Mitch McConnell’s Wish List of Supreme Court Nominees

Wish List of Supreme Court NomineesJustice Scalia had the gall to croak during Obama’s presidency, so Senate Republicans are going to obstruct the appointment of his successor. I doubt stalling Scalia’s replacement is a great strategy. Even if he thinks a Republican will win in November, McConnell can’t seriously think whomever Trump (gah!), Cruz (gross!) or Rubio (duh!) would pick is worth losing control of the Senate by giving their obstructionism a sympathetic name and face in Obama’s stonewalled nominee which will likely increase Democratic turnout.

A Preview of Our Newest Characters

Preview of Our Newest CharactersI’m not going to San Diego Comic Con, but I’m hosting my own panel online, previewing a whole slate of new characters that may or may not appear in future comics. Hopefully Marvel buys the rights and beats these franchises into the ground so I can retire and not have to listen to anything Donald Trump says ever again.

2015’s Summer Blockbusters

2015's Summer BlockbustersI have yet to see any of this year’s big summer movies, but I will be attending a theatrical re-release of Jaws this weekend. I guess that’s what happens when you age out of Hollywood’s beloved 18-35 demographic.

The Supreme Court’s term was an historic one and I’m surprisingly happy with how it turned out, except for how they botched the botched-execution case. And as much as I loathe the interminable presidential election process, the winner will likely nominate quite a few new faces to to the Supreme Court. But not to replace RBG, who I hope turns out to be immortal.
