Trump would clean out the “take a penny, leave a penny” tray before donating his actual money to charity. His charitable shenanigans have been well documented in a series of stories by David Farenthold. There’s also the grifting of campaign funds to pay companies owned by himself and his family.
If he ends up winning, it’ll be a long-con gone wrong.

There’s a lot of good television coming this fall, but I’m going to miss it to watch the final weeks of election coverage. There might be a day or two to binge-watch everything I missed before the 2020 coverage begins in earnest, but I’m not counting on it.

Colin Kaepernick is protesting and drawing attention to the epidemic of unprosecuted police brutality by sitting out (kneeling out since this cartoon was drawn) the national anthem. Everyone outraged about his free speech is talking about patriotism, respecting veterans and arcane flag etiquette instead of systemic racism because it’s easier to change the subject.
The Santa Clara Police Department proved Kaepernick was correct by throwing a tantrum and explicitly stating they have the power to choose who they protect and serve. Hopefully the protest continues and the discussion expands beyond Kaepernick to the actual issue of police brutality he’s trying to highlight.

If there was any doubt that Martin Shkreli represents the rest of the for-profit healthcare industry, recent headlines removed it. Mylan’s gouging of Epi-Pens, and Aetna sulking away from Obamacare markets because they weren’t profitable enough are making quite the case for putting a public option into the Affordable Care Act.
The public option was originally in there, but removed to placate conservatives, who spent the past 6 years trying to repeal it anyway. Unless the House changes hands in November, a public insurance plan will remain a pipe dream and healthcare costs will keep going up. That’s good news if you happen to be a well-compensated healthcare CEO.
I’m not even going to pretend that single-payer will ever happen. Too much money’s at stake, and no number of lives can top that.

July was the hottest month ever. 2016’s on pace to be the hottest year ever. In recorded history, anyway. I admit that things were probably hotter when the proto-Earth was coalescing around the Sun billions of years ago.

Republicans are abandoning the Trump Train, and Clinton’s rolling out the welcome mat. I hope her tent is big enough to keep John Negroponte far away from wherever the Clinton campaign’s foreign policy is being written.

This time of summer is usually the silly season for news since no sane person pays attention until after Labor Day. But Trump can’t let a news cycle go by without cramming himself into it. I’m running out of ways to say he’s still terrible.
I am personally pro-cargo shorts, but that’s probably another knock against them.
